The Issue: What is happening with the BMW LED tail light assembly? My tail lights are not working. This will allow you to trace the 12 volts needed at the parking lamp(s) when the light switch at the dash has been switched on (first position; you don't need the headlights on). Ya it ended up being the Tail Light Circuit Board cheap and easy fix:). A common issue people have is when the parking lights work, but when the brakes are pressed, the tail lamp bulb turns off completely.
Nylon cable ties fixed the problem. This is for dimming and is not needed. Only thing different is I didn't put bumper back on because I ordered a roll pan. Hey had same problem with my 99 suburban. I used a circuit tester to check the sockets for each of the 3 pods located inside the rear tail light assembly. There's a switch under the brake pedal also. There is actually a hole on the circuit board... i didnt think the o/w/ wire was used in usa 99 sportsters.????? The tail lamp bulb can also trigger the rear brake lights as well. Follow those wires and you will find the box wherever it is.
Do this and look for any obvious broken or spliced wires, a tell tail sign it's been screwed with in the past. Replaced taillight assemblies and worked fine for a year and a half. Couldnt find any damaged wiring as well. What you need is the wiring schematic(s) for your year Vanagon (although the taillight wiring for Vanagons is pretty much the same). You were even given part #'s! When you squeeze the lever the button is no longer pressed which activates the brake light. Replace bulb only few bucks just give it a try. After finding the board specifications it was easy to find a replacement for the board in the Mean Well Low Voltage LDD Drivers. He may have missed one. My right tail light doesnt work, but when i step on the brakes, all bulbs turn on, so the bulbs seem fine. Depending on the degree of corrosion, you may need to remove part of the pin that broke off from one of the cables (it may just need a needle nose to pull it out). 02-07-2009, 05:51 PM. I have new circuit boards fuses. He has some documents that may include the wiring diagrams. So if the running/reverse lights are working then its getting some kinda of current back to the lights. It turns out that the side marker lightbulb assembly was so corroded, it broke in half and shorted out. Checked fuses inside and under hood all good.

Is it pretty common or rare? Access to the assembly differs from one vehicle to the next. So for some reason the brake and signal lights don't work at all on the back passanger side.
