I know I've already learned a valuable lesson, and made a mistake I simply won't repeat. Wheeler sells a gas block taper pin removal kit and it comes with two punches. 750 barrels and installs like any other set screw block. I removed the gastube pin by pushing it from left to right (as in aiming), but the sight pins don't seem to want to move even after applying heat driving them the same direction as the gastube pin? Slice it with cut off wheel and get it off the barrel. Secure the barrel in a vise with non-marring jaws, bottom side up. 2Select the size of pin punch that matches the diameter of your roll pin. Now get the tiny little 1/8 punch to push the pins out of the FSB. If a military-style front sight/gas block will be included in your build, I would recommend buying a barrel with it factory installed. There are a couple methods for dimpling a barrel I will cover here. AR-15 Gas Block Pins Destroyed (Options? I apologize that I do not know the science behind it but I am sure someone will be happy to explain or take a guess in the comments. If a barrel does not have them make sure you bring it to a competent gunsmith to lightly and SHALLOWLY drill dimples on the underside of the barrel. Just make sure that your punch is hitting square on the pin and not at all on the FSB. These set screws should fit into dimples on the barrel. 01" variance if I remember correctly from large side to small side. Barrels are available in rifle, carbine and pistol lengths in various weights and with different-length gas systems. I recommend a dial caliper! Thanks to all those that chimed in.
Here is where you MAY have been slightly are taper are hard taper pins, and there are soft taper PSA used hard pins, you would not have this problem. For the S&W rifle, that product's instructions would be incorrect. Admittedly, the gas block is one of the last components I consider. The contrast of hot and cold temperatures should be enough to loosen the roll pin in its housing. So, now you have two 1/2 holes across your skinny see, cutting a complete hole through a gas block and barrel assy tting 1/2 hole is pretty hard. A way I have heard of people double-checking their alignment is blowing through the barrel with one end capped off and feeling the gas block port for airflow. I can slide the block in place with finger pressure, but it isn't loose.
