Whether you're picking it up because of the Netflix adaptation or just discovering The Sandman on your own, now is the time. While Gaiman references earlier incarnations of the character like the 1930s Wesley Dodds Sandman (Dream's helm looks a lot like Dodds' gas mask), and a dream sequence drawn in a Jack Kirby style (a nod to the 1970s Kirby Sandman), Gaiman's Sandman is decidedly more modern and set in a richly imaginative world. Dream Country: Imo, all issues, which is only 17-20, were quite satisfying and well done.

It's such a well-loved adult comic series but it just didn't really do anything for me. I decided to revisit this series to see if I still found as dark as I did originally. Being a Batman fan, it definitely got me hooked when I saw that reference, but the more I read, the more I fell in love with this story, wanting to get the next issues of The Sandman the next chance I can get. We get to meet Dream aka Morpheus aka The Sandman (choose whichever name you prefer) and as a character, I find him incredibly intriguing. Who would have ever thought that Death would be this adorable, perky little Goth girl, not so much menacing you as you die, but comforting and helping you on your journey to the great beyond. The capture of Morpheus/Dream/Sandman (or whichever name of his you prefer), the sleeping sickness, his inevitable (and beautifully patient) escape and vengeance guarantees that any fan of fantasy or comic books or fantasy and comic books must continue with the series. In terms of the greater series, I have the Volume 1 pictured (there are more modern reprints than this one), with the purple cover, and although it says on the back that the series is collected in ten such volumes, there actually ended up being eleven, with Volume 11 being titled Endless Nights. Most of the times we see the physical manifestation of Death in media as a "Grim Reaper" or something similar. It was fantastic, specially the audiobook made it a lively and enchanting experience. Even Gaiman says this series was the best he has ever written. English & Arabic Review: I heard Neil Gaiman is one of the strangest authors with crazy imagination mind. I'd recommend someone looking to understand the brilliance of this series to start with the standalone books, Vol 3 and Vol 6 rather than with Vol 1 - those are much more representative of why people love Sandman so much. The plot of the first few issues didn't bother me. The story is dark, gritty and philosophy to a point where I can say it's really good.
