When I decided to read THE SONG OF ACHILLES, I was afraid that I didn't have enough background knowledge on the Trojan War or the Iliad to appreciate the story. But the child is then raised by Thetis under water, which I don't think it'd have been possible if he'd been human, so I don't understand why this was necessary. I love Circe as a character — her passions, her struggles, her pain, her yearning. By the end of the book you'll take it for granted that boys can be taught everything they need to know – reading, fighting, cooking, making herbal purgatives for goats – by a centaur in a mountain cave. But because it's June and officially audio book month, I decided it was high time for me to catch up on some of my audio book reviews. Obviously a narrator whose voice distracts from the story is a negative. In addition, I thought she did a marvelous job of bringing Patroclus to life and making him a very real, and very likable, character. Interesting, but I didn't really think it was that well-written of a story. Reccomended this highly story highly and I listened to the whole thing in 3 days. His narration really brings the story to life. The first one I decided to share is THE SONG OF ACHILLES by Madeline Miller. The love story is so beautiful, the narration flows flawlessly and it just keeps you glued to it, making you want to hear more and more... I can't even start a new book yet; I'm still too in love... Sad to now leave Patroclus' world. I was absolutely captivated from the first page. This book made me feel in love with Greek mythology all over again. Before he knows it, he's being hunted by everyone from the Russian mafia to the CIA.
Gorgeous prose and strong storytelling. Another incredible Gray Man. Circe is another genre fiction novel by the author that did quite well for Madeline and her fans. Not being a serious classicist, I'm not sure how much of Patroclus's childhood association with Achilles Miller has made up. These men especially Achilles were brutal KILLERS and playing patsy grab ass just doesn't fit the type of men under those conditions. He captures all the emotion and love. It is much more of a love story than the adventure I expected. As the Wars of the Roses draw slowly to a close, England is a place of turmoil. So Benny seeks refuge in the silence of a large public library. Many years into the fight, he will eventually take up a sword to protect Achilles who is still refusing to fight. Also it was very hard for me to want to continue to listen to the book. Police Chief Nash Morgan is known for two things: Being a good guy and the way his uniform accentuates his butt. Though the circumstances surrounding Thalia's death and the conviction of the school's athletic trainer, Omar Evans, are the subject of intense fascination online, Bodie prefers—needs—to let sleeping dogs lie. When Helen is kidnapped and taken to Troy and all Greek heroes called to action to rescue her and Thetis (Achilles' Goddess mother) hides her son in a foreign land and marries him off to a princess in secret, Patroclus searches until he finds him which I guess is again sweet, but this stop really lost me as a reader. The Lady sends her to the capital of the global empire of Aritsar to compete with other children to be chosen as one of the crown prince's Council of Eleven. His voices and accents were terrific, and I have to wonder if I enjoyed this story even more because I listened to his interpretation of it. She has also studied at the University of Chicago's Committee on Social Thought, and in the Dramaturgy department at Yale School of Drama, where she focused on the adaptation of classical texts to modern forms.
