Transfer Case Won't Shift Into 4 Low

I have done the same, as far as unlocking the hubs, then running in four wheel low. When I am in reverse there is a loud knocking noise that comes from the transfer case... how do i fix that? We've talked about 4WD, how the system works, and the differences between 4x4 high vs.

Just to let you know I tried the backup thing you talked about here and it came out of 2 wheel low perfectly! My 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche truck had gotten stuck in 4-wheel Drive High and Your trick worked! Thank you all for your posts, it saved me. I don't know what it is you're counting, but, it's not the transfer case reduction gearing - on a Samurai transfer case neither hi range nor low range is 1:1. I tried everything except unhook battery, I worried I will have to go to a dealership. Trying to fix the problem. No dashboard indicator showed anything about being stuck in 4x4 low. It doesnt seem like its pushing down so that I can get it in Neutral to go into 4L. Transfer case won't shift into 4 low georgetown. I have a 2006 ford explorer xlt i have been stuck in low 4x4 for 2 days now. The "disconnect the battery" solution that has helped some of you may be a matter of doing so forcing a clearing of a "don't shift" command that has somehow been generated in the oversight circuitry. Newer vehicles like this will have a button to push for 4L instead of the old days when you would do it yourself with a heavy-duty mechanical lever in the vehicle.

It'll shift into 4 high no problem. The primary difference between 4h and 4L comes down to speed. Even though speed is limited in lower gears, your ability to remain in control is intact.
