Reagan Summerside's mom, the judge, is running for Alderman, but things get sticky when a nasty mudslinging opponent winds up dead, poisoned by some honey bourbon; bourbon the judge said she was bringing him as a good will gesture. There is also the setting. Her characters are quirky, but so realistic they seem like neighbors you know. The southern folksy expressions are a lot of fun. After reading One for the Money, her first Stephanie Plum book, I wanted to write humorous mysteries and that's what I do. I usually like the Duffy Brown "Consignment Shop" novels, but this one took me nearly a week to plod through.

Duffy: Eight years kind of says it all. There is a wealth of well-developed support characters, including Evie's mother and Cal, her ex-Marine shop assistant. Mackinac Island is so unique and the absolute perfect place to hide a body or two. It's a lot like a TV show…you can always jump in at any time but the characters change.
